Huntersville, North Carolina — January 18, 2026 — Comedian Nick Lewis, a beloved and influential voice in stand-up comedy and a veteran of Def Comedy Jam, BET’s Comic View, and P. Diddy Presents: The Bad Boys of Comedy, passed away on Sunday morning, January 18, 2026, at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, North Carolina, just outside of Charlotte. The specific cause of death has not been publicly disclosed.

 

Nick Lewis began his comedy career in the early 1990s, performing at well-known comedy clubs throughout the Southern United States, including Alabama, Georgia, and North and South Carolina. His sharp wit, authentic storytelling, and fearless humor quickly earned him respect among peers and audiences alike. His career reached a national audience when he was featured on Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam in 1997, appearing in Season 6, Episode 5, hosted by J. Anthony Brown. ​

Nick Lewis further cemented his place in comedy history through his work on P. Diddy Presents: The Bad Boys of Comedy, appearing on Volume 1 (2005) and Volume 2 (2007). These projects showcased his stand-up alongside iconic comedians such as Mike Epps and Bill Bellamy, solidifying his role within the celebrated “Bad Boys” comedy brand.

Prior to his passing, Nick Lewis was actively working on A Woman’s Love Compromised, a comedy love story that lovingly featured characters named after his daughters—one of many stage plays he authored throughout his career. Among his many career highlights was the creation, hosting, and production of Pure Comedy Laughs, which premiered at the 2023 Gospel Spin Awards in Atlanta, Georgia, making history as the first comedy showcase ever featured during the Spin Awards. Beyond the stage and spotlight, Nick Lewis was deeply passionate about mentoring teens and giving back to his community through his companies, US Cott Entertainment and STAR Career-tainment Program, leaving a lasting impact both on and off the stage.

Beyond television and stage success, Nick Lewis was deeply respected as a mentor and supporter within the comedy community. His comedian circle of friends and collaborators included George Wallace, Cocoa Brown, Rodney Perry, Talent, Griff, Small Fire, T.P. Hern, Chocolate, Don D.C. Curry, Rickey Smiley, and many others who considered him not only a peer, but family. Nick Lewis leaves behind a powerful legacy of laughter, mentorship, and authenticity. He is survived by his twin daughters, Kennedy and Jordan, who remain the center of his enduring legacy. Arrangements and memorial details will be shared at a later time.
